This comprehensive, elegant, limited edition atlas is the largest ever produced, 2 feet high and 18 inches wide. Containing 580 pages and 400,000 words, the maps, photos and illustrations combine to provide the most prestigious and detailed world atlas ever made. Earth is an authoritative statement about the world at the start of the new millennium, a unique record and reflection of the world today for reference and display in the best collections around the world.
Over 100 of the world's best cartographers, geographers and oceanographers were assembled to create 160 pages of the most detailed and extensive mapping of the world ever provided in a single atlas. 45 distinguished contributors, representing every continent, provided the research and wrote the text components of Earth. 800 images were then selected from the finest sources to illustrate the comprehensive text and mapping. Earth won the prestigious IMTA award for Best Cartography 2009.
There will only be 2,000 Royal Blue hand-numbered copies of Earth ever made. The plates were destroyed after printing. The hardwood cover is wrapped in custom-dyed leather. The pages are gilt and the corners plated. Each book comes with a signed certificate of authenticity. Nothing else comes close to the scale and scope of Earth. The book alone, not including the case, weighs 44 pounds and stands two feet tall and a foot and a half wide. In its silk lined leather presentation case the total weight is 64 pounds.
Nothing like Earth has ever existed before. It provides a magnificent impression of the world today, a valuable tool for any library for centuries ahead. Not every institution has the budget for Earth, but an alumnus could make the dream a reality for your institution. Earth will capture the imagination of your faculty, staff and students alike. Useful as a showpiece in any exhibition, it will be in high demand. Hundreds of years from now, it will still be a treasured part of your library.
